DHA, the active micro-spray ingredient, has been used in popular self-tanning lotions for more than three decades.
Although the FDA long ago determined DHA to be perfectly safe on your skin, it has yet to test DHA in eyes, on lips and in nasal passages. For that reason, we suggest that you consider wearing eyewear, lip balm and nose filters during your Mystic Tan session. They’re available at Bare Tan, and just one more way that we go out of our way to assure that you have an incredible experience… guaranteed.

Mystic Tan FAQ's

1. What is the  Mystic Tan Booth?

The Mystic Tan™ booth is a private, self-contained unit that employs a revolutionary spray process to apply a uniform amount of tanning solution to the entire body in just seconds.

When the tanning session is complete, the tanner simply steps out of the booth, towels off any excess mist, dresses and exits. The result is a smooth, natural-looking tan.

2. What is MagneTan technology?

MagneTan™ technology is our patented process that uses the human body's own magnetic properties to attract Mystic Tan tanning solution to every exposed surface of the skin.

When genuine Mystic Tan tanning solution passes through the spray nozzles in a Mystic Tan booth, the micro-particles of solution are polarized, taking on the characteristics of “tiny magnets.” These particles adhere evenly to the skin to create a smooth, natural-looking tan.

3. Will it turn me orange?

NO!  In the past, self-tanners gave many individuals an unnatural orange glow and caused streaking. Most of these undesirable results were caused by improper or ineffective application techniques.  Applying creams and lotions by hand usually results in excessive amounts being absorbed in the skin. Excessive amounts applied in a single application can give an orange glow to the skin. Unnatural dark spots may also appear in dry or thick skinned areas such as elbows, knees, and knuckles because these areas have a tendency to absorb more of the cream.  Hand held spray-on applicators tend to run and cause streaking. The MagneTan™ technology used to apply the Mystic Tan™ tanning solution assures that all areas of the body get a uniform coating of the solution in the exact quantity required to produce a golden brown tan.

4. What should I wear in the Mystic Tan tanning booth?

Many people do not wear anything. The room is completely private and if you would like to tan in the nude it is perfectly  acceptable. However, if you do wear a bathing suit, underwear, or anything else, please be aware that whatever you wear may be stained. The bronzer we use for your initial color is water-soluble and should wash out of anything you  wear, but the DHA applied may cause permanent stains on any clothing you may wear inside the booth.

5. Will My skin be wet when i step out of the Mystic Tan Booth

The mist applied in the Mystic Tan tanning booth is moist and very fine. Tiny droplets remaining on your arms or legs after the session are easily removed by toweling dry. Don’t worry about wiping off the solution. Toweling won’t streak your tan, and any solution that wipes onto the towel is excess and will not effect your tan. Just towel off the same way you do when you take a shower. Be sure to towel off completely before getting dressed

6. How long do I have to wait after a Mystic Tan tanning session before I can shower?

We recommend that you wait a minimum of 5-7 hours after tanning to give the DHA enough time to fully set.  If you shower earlier, you may diminish the intensity of the tan. When you do shower the initial tan created by the water-soluble bronzer will wash off, but the DHA will remain and create your long term tan.

7. What happens if the Mystic Tan gets in my eyes?

Mystic Tan tanning solution has been thoroughly tested by a third-party lab and the results showed no eye or skin irritation. Mystic Tan tanning solution has been used in over two million tanning sessions with no adverse reactions documented.

8.  What happens if I inhale any of the Mystic Tan mist?

While no one should purposely inhale or ingest the Mystic Tan mist, it is known that DHA (the active tanning ingredient) is a non-hazardous compound and causes no adverse reaction in moderate quantities when applied topically or even ingested. DHA has been used as a diet supplement in sports nutrition and is non-carcinogenic. Testing has further shown that DHA is less toxic than aspirin, caffeine and even common table salt. Based on our research, the maximum amount of DHA that could accidentally be ingested or breathed during a one minute Mystic Tan sunless tanning session would be .05 milligrams (equivalent to less than one grain of common table salt). Ingesting this minimal amount of DHA should pose no health risk to the consumer.

9.  Has ANYONE HAD AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO MYSTIC TAN TANNING SOLUTION?

The components we use in our solution have been successfully used in cosmetics and food products for decades, and are proven safe for use on the skin. If you’ve had previous allergic reactions to self-tanning lotions or cosmetics, you may want to do a “patch test” first. Put a small amount of Mystic Tan tanning solution on a small area of your skin to test for possible reactions.

10. Are there ways to enhance the Mystic Tan results?

Keeping your skin hydrated prior to tanning helps your skin absorb Mystic Tan tanning solution. Frequently using moisturizer will help the tan last longer. Apply moisturizer after showering, but not during the hours between your Mystic Tan session and your shower.

11.  How long after a Mystic Tan tanning session before i can put my clothes back on?

Once you have towel dried there is little chance of the bronzer or DHA getting on your clothes.  If you pursue any strenuous physical activity after your Mystic Tan™ tanning session, perspiration may cause some of the bronzer to transfer to your clothing.  Since the bronzer is completely water-soluble it will wash out.

12. How many times do i need to tan with the Mystic Tan tanning process to achieve the color I want?

You want to come 2-3 times in your 1st week to achieve your desired color and even tan, and then only once every 5 to 7 days for maintenance.

13.  If I tan in the Mystic Tan tanning booth, can I also tan in tanning beds and in the sun?

YES. There is nothing in the Mystic Tan™ tanning solution that would prevent you from tanning in tanning beds or the sun.  In fact, a number of customers have found that tanning with UV rays and the Mystic Tan™ tanning solution actually gives them a better overall tan. If you do plan to use a tanning bed and the Mystic Tan booth in the same day we recommend that you tan in the tanning bed first. Remember however, that the Mystic Tan tan does not give you any protection from UV rays.

14.  I HAVE FAIR SKIN AND HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO TAN. WILL I LOOK TAN AFTER A MYSTIC TANNING SESSION

YES.  The Mystic Tan™ tanning booth was designed specifically for individuals who can't or don't want to tan conventionally.

15. CAN I USE THE MYSTIC TAN BOOTH IF I AM PREGNANT?

We recommend consulting with your doctor before proceeding with a Mystic Tan tanning session

16. ARE THERE ANY OPTIONAL PRECAUTIONS I CAN USE WITH THE MYSTIC TAN BOOTH?

When applying DHA sunless products in a spray or mist, it may be difficult to avoid exposure to eyes, lips or guard against accidental inhalation of the tanning mist. Mystic Tan, Inc. and the FDA recommends that users cover the area of the eyes with standard UV tanning eyewear, protect the lips with lip balm and use a nose filter to protect membranes in the nasal passages, as well as avoid inhaling or ingesting the product.
